HEY BLAKE, CAN WE USE YOUR HOUSE?

The world of production can take you to interesting destinations. Having ventured to places like the North Pole, Alaska, Beijing and Cardinals Spring Training for work, I feel pretty spoiled. So every time the location conversation comes up, I get a tad giddy thinking about the possibilities of how we’re going to take a script from paper to screen.
And while budgets may not always allow me to cash in my Southwest drink tickets, the right location can be the difference between high production value and “what were they thinking?”
For our friends at Mosby Building Arts, the location search can get tricky. First, it has to be a nice home. But can we access a client’s home? Does the house have the space we’d like to feature? Is there enough room for a crew to come in and film? There are a lot of boxes to check.
Luckily, we found a solution–right out Blake Padberg’s back door.
With a spot that features the homeowner orchestrating a transformation from just beyond the patio, all we needed was a flat exterior and lots of space for gesticulation and crew members.
Luckily, we found a strong production partner to help fill in the rest of the gaps. Aligned Media used Blake’s outdoor canvas and overlaid it with meticulous aftereffects, rotoscoping, sky replacement, etc. to the point where Mrs. Padberg commented, “Why did we even shoot at our house? They changed everything.”
Exactly, Sarah. And thanks again for the perfect backdrop to the green screen. Because, after all, “sometimes the home you’ve always wanted is the one you’re already in.” (I think Blake still has the renderings if you’re looking to use any of those ideas.)
And if you’re interested in the rest of the campaign and/or the real behind-the-scenes video assembled by Aligned Media, keep scrolling.
Big thanks to our client contact, Rebecca Lay, for trusting us with this project and for carrying the narrative of this video.
