WHEN WORKING FOR A HOSPITAL SUDDENLY BECAME WORKING FROM A HOSPITAL

A week after finishing our new TV commercial for Western Missouri Medical Center, spotlighting their exceptional care team and innovative medicine, I was in a different hospital.Â
I was with my dad, where we were on the receiving end of the same kind of care 342 miles away. His near collapse while mowing and the tests that followed revealed severely blocked arteries, necessitating an emergency triple bypass and aortic valve replacement. As I sat by him and my mom, I was a mix of concerned, confused and nostalgic.

But during the stressful week that followed, by his side and in the waiting rooms of the hospital where he was treated, I was amazed by the compassion and expertise of the staff. The OR assistant who updated us constantly, the bright and proactive ICU nurse and the surgeon who made a beeline to my mother and me after the operation, scrubs still speckled red, to inform us of the emergency procedure’s success.
The irony wasn't lost on me.Â
Though we weren’t in Warrensburg during my dad’s crisis, I was experiencing the exact same kind of medical care that Darling had witnessed in the four days we spent at WMMC, scouting and shooting.
The commercials, social posts and OOH that we’d produced reflected the same dedication we saw in their staff, from the compassionate ICU teams and nurses to the family providers, housekeepers and sincerely friendly greeters. All of whom were brought together by Tara and Morgan, our thoughtful marketing partners at WMMC.
And, as you watch the spot, the parallels between the script and the reality unfolding hundreds of miles away are unmistakable. Just like WMMC’s patients, my own father had received the best care on his worst day.
