GREETINGS FROM ELDON
Let’s get the work part out of the way: we had a great shoot with an amazing client at Lake Regional who found fantastic talent to star as patients and providers. And our production partner, Electropolis, delivered the goods as they always do, covering multiple angles and finding honest, engaging moments over the course of two days. But the surprise of the trip came from an unexpected shooting location.
As you may have gleaned from the spot above, we were aiming to show the realities of a busy mom shuffling from practice to school to work and, somewhere in there, trying to squeeze in a checkup for her daughter.
We anchored our shoot around Lake Regional’s Eldon Clinic. It had the providers and all the spaces we needed for appointment-related scenes. It was also not too far from Skyler’s (our hero mom’s) home base. Plus, it had a perfect little park for soccer practice.
But we also needed what sociologists keep referring to as a “third space,” the place that’s not quite home and not quite work. A place where people can feel comfortable but not so comfortable that they’re ready for sweatpants and slippers.
You get it. Mom’s busy. She’s running all over. She needs a jolt of caffeine and a spot with wifi to catch up on emails.
And we needed a location that wouldn’t take our crew 45 minutes to get there, half an hour to light, set up and start filming for what would ultimately become a five-second piece of footage.
Oddly enough, the day before the shoot, we were in search of such a place to cool our heels while scouting. Oh, and a snack wouldn’t be the worst thing for the folks carrying cameras and finding interesting angles all morning.
Cut to us walking through downtown Eldon. We had successfully locked down all of our locations aside from this third space. Then we saw a nice-looking coffee shop, aptly named “Serendipity.”
The people were friendly, the coffee was roasted on site and bread was baking in the back. When we looked up from our sips, we also noticed that it would be the perfect spot for Mom to manage her day between commitments.
It worked out perfectly. We fed our entire crew on their tasty offerings and came away with a bag of coffee and a camera full of footage.
So, next time you’re struggling to find the right location, maybe just stop and grab a dirty chai. In the meantime, here are the rest of the pieces of the campaign.
